Calathea Peacock Sphagnum Moss Ball
Introducing the Calathea Peacock Sphagnum Moss Ball — a living work of art that commands attention in any room. The Calathea Makoyana is celebrated for its extraordinary foliage: deep forest green leaves etched with intricate light green brushstroke patterns, reminiscent of peacock feathers. Nestled in a bed of rich sphagnum moss within a clear glass bowl, every detail of this arrangement — roots, moss, and striking leaves — is on full display.
Place it on a coffee table, bathroom vanity, or bedside shelf and watch it become the centrepiece of the space. A truly sculptural plant that brings the quiet drama of the tropics indoors.
Care Guide
💧 Watering
- Water when the top layer of moss feels dry — roughly every 7–14 days in warmer months, less in winter.
- Pour water gently into the glass bowl until the moss is evenly moist, then allow excess to be absorbed before returning to display.
- Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride and chlorine — use filtered or rainwater where possible.
- Avoid leaving standing water in the bowl for extended periods to prevent root rot.
☀️ Light
- Thrives in low to medium indirect light — never direct sun, which will scorch and fade the patterned leaves.
- A north- or east-facing window is ideal.
- The more consistent the light, the more vivid the leaf markings.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
- Prefers temperatures between 18–27°C — keep away from cold draughts, air conditioning vents, and heating units.
- Calatheas love humidity. Mist the leaves lightly, place near a humidifier, or group with other plants to raise ambient moisture.
🌿 Feeding
- Feed with a diluted liquid fertiliser once a month during spring and summer.
- No feeding needed in autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.
🪴 General Tips
- Calatheas are prayer plants — their leaves move throughout the day, folding upward at night. This is completely normal and a sign of a healthy plant.
- Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep the patterns vivid.
- Rotate occasionally for even, balanced growth.
- The glass bowl is included — handle with care to avoid breakage.
- Pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.
Note: Every moss ball is handcrafted and each plant is unique, so natural variations in colour, size, and shape are to be expected.
